Kindred Spirits - For Your Comfort (1981)
December 2, 2007
Rarely have I been so completely taken by a group’s vocal harmonies as I have with Oklahoma’s Kindred Spirits. Dreamy hypnotic male/female vocals and moody west-coast vibes surround this cutting-edge mix of hippie electric folkrock and Dead-ish country rock. More of an early ‘70s sound than anything ‘80s, with accomplished songwriting and skillful electric and acoustic guitar leads. Other instruments include flute, steel guitar and piano, as well as appearances by harmonica and sax. Titles include ‘Drifting Free’, ‘Serve And Grow’, ‘Flying Away’, ‘Sonship’, ‘Life - Feel It’, ‘Looking To You’, ‘Partners In Time’, ‘Psalm 100’, thirteen songs in all. The primitive cut-and-paste b&w cover photos look very homemade, but the arrangements, musicianship and recording quality are all top-notch. (Ken Scott - Archivist)
